What is this league?

Law & District AAC are one of five clubs that join together to make Team South Lanarkshire for competing at the Youth Development League (YDL). The other four clubs involved are Hamilton, Whitemoss, Larkhall and East Kilbride. This is a prestigious event and all the athletes in the past have thoroughly enjoyed being part of Team South Lanarkshire and meeting new athletes and friends. We were promoted to Division 1 in 2018 which gives our athletes a very good standard of competition.

Each year, one of the five clubs have responsibility for team selection. This year team selection is the responsibility of Hamilton & District AC. Alison Gilchrist is Law & District AAC team manager this year and will be passing over details of all our interested athletes, current PBs etc for consideration by the Hamilton selection team.

There are track & field events for U13s and U15s in the YDL Lower Age Groups (U17s & U20s will compete in the Junior League - see separate event information).

How is the team selected?

Athlete selection is based on current form, season’s PBs and Power of 10 recorded times. The team managers must put forward the strongest team possible and therefore you may not always be selected for your favoured event.

Team selection is reviewed prior to each match.

You may be asked on the day to participate in an additional event if there are gaps due to injury or illness and other athletes are unable to compete. The team managers, where possible, will try to fill all events as valuable points can often be picked up. There is a good team spirit when athletes are willing to do events that they don’t class as one of their “main events” and often PBs are picked up or you find another event that you actually enjoy.
