What is this league?

Central & South of Scotland Athletic League (CSSAL) is for clubs in Southern & Central Scotland and consists of three matches. The league consists of three divisions with up to 8 teams in each division. Law & District AAC are currently in Division 1. Each match consists of a mixture of track and field events plus relays. Each event has an A string and B string athlete. At each match the club get an overall placing and amount of points according to our place at that match. After three matches the team with the most overall points are champions of their divison. The two teams from the top division with the least points are relegated while the two teams with the most points from the second division are promoted.

Who competes in this league?

U11 to senior/master male and female athletes

How is the team selected?

Unlike the YDL league where the standard means clubs must put out the best team possible, the team in this league will consist of mixed ability. By mixing the team, this gives more athletes a chance to compete whilst still remaining strong enough to stay in Division 1.

As this is a team competition with only 2 places per event per team, athletes will usually be doing 2 events each (one of them could be the relay) and may not be doing their favourite event! At league matches, the emphasis is on participation and competing as a part of a team, with all selected club members expected to take part.

The points scoring system means that it's important that we have competitors in all events at a match. Athletes that do an event for the first time "to get a point" are just as important a part of the team as the athletes that win events.

Also, there are one or two age groups where we have a large number of athletes which means, because this is a league match with a limited number of places per team, we may not be able to accommodate absolutely everyone who wants to compete, however this is quite rare.

How do I know if I am selected?

You will be asked to complete an Availability Form approximately 4 weeks before each match. You will then be contacted by the relevant team manager at least 1 week before the match and will be provided with details of the event(s) you are selected for.
