No Mercy Shown at the Nationals!

NAT xc

Well done to our large contingent of Law athletes who travelled to Callendar Park in Falkirk to represent the club at the Scottish Cross Country Championships. In tough conditions our athletes ran well and should be proud of themselves!

In the Under 13 Girls race we had 7 athletes. The first home was Erin Snow in 23rd place, ahead of Jessica Robson, Rachel Donnelly, Ciara Scullion, Katie Foss, Lauren Allen and Erin Doyle. Every single one of these athletes competed in their first ever National XC, some fine efforts!

In the Under 13 Boys we had 5 athletes competing with Matthew Gillon leading home Alan McCulloch, David McCormack, David Yue and Finn Milligan. With Alan, David Yue and Finn competing in their first National XC joining Matthew and David Mc in their second, we put together a strong team performance - well done on your efforts boys!

Our Under 15 Girls also ran brilliantly. Elle Henderson turned the tables on Dion Ingram to come out on top, with Eve MacDonald close behind and Pamela Newell rounding out our team of four athletes. Strong performances from our four athletes returning for yet another cross country!

The Under 15 Boys was arguably the closest race between our athletes all day. James Gillon sprinted past Patryk Szymanski in the final 100 metres to gain revenge for the West Districts where Patryk came out on top. The ever improving Adam Kelly ran a great race and was virtually side by side with James Gillon for most of the race until James kicked on near the finish. These three athletes should be proud of their performances and we look forward to seeing another enthralling race at Annan this weekend!

In the Under 17 Men we had five athletes, with Gregor Gillespie coming out on top in 25th, ahead of Ben Fountain (who was enjoying the race so much he was giving the double thumbs up on the way round), Shaun Burke, Kieran Cubis and Conor Butters. A closed run race between Shaun, Kieran and Conor all after Shaun tripped and body slid through the mud - see picture! Thankfully Shaun was ok (just little muddy!)

In the Under 20 Women, Hannah Stark and Margaret Newell continued their close battle with Hannah coming out on top this time. Well done! The standings in this age group will be one to look out for when the standings come out tomorrow!

In the Under 20 Men we had a sole representative. Luke Foss was our top finisher of the day in 15th place. This all in Luke's first year of three in that age group, well done Luke! Ross Hill also travelled to Falkirk intending to run but due to a niggling injury which reappeared in the warm up he was forced to withdraw. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery Ross!

In the Senior Women we also had a sole representative. Roxanne Yue, competing in her first National XC ran a great race and finished admirably, well done Roxanne, hopefully the first of many National Xcs to come!

The final race of the day was the Senior Men's race. In a close battle, Mark Hand (122nd) held off Darran Muir (126th) by 3 seconds to come home first, ahead of Tony Higgins, James Scullion (competing in only his second race for the club! - see the picture winning the family trophy with Ciara wink emoticon ) and Pat Kelly completing yet another Scottish XC...well done Pat and well done to all of our Seniors!

Many thanks to all our supporters who turned up on the day to cheer on our athletes. Parents enthusiastically supported their kids and had a contingent of club members turn up just to watch and cheer on their team members - thank you to all of you for encouraging our athletes!
The next XC is the Sunday in Annan, with further races to come at Chatelherault on Saturday 7th of March and Biggar. We also have the Schools XC taking place this Saturday at the John Cumming Stadium - hope to see some of you there!
