If you Google 'leukaemia' chances are you'll find 'fatigue' listed as one of the most common symptoms.

That's certainly what 58-year-old former Law & District AAC athlete Hugh Forgie knew when he was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease 12 years ago in April.

But rather than pack up his running shoes, the resilient Abington man decided to put in even more hours of training, and is now taking on a challenge that would put most athletes to shame.

In July, Hugh and his wife, Margaret, 53, plan to cycle a whopping 2000 miles from Glasgow to Malaga raising funds for leukaemia research at the Paul O'Gorman Centre through the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Club founder and Tom Scott Road Race convenor, Bob Benyon, presented Shuggie & Mag with a donation of £200 during training at the John Cumming Stadium last night.
