Carluke's Pamela McNicol notched up an impressive pentathlon title last week at the scottishathletics national U16 championships in Pitreavie.

The 14-year-old Carluke High School pupil, a member of Law AAC, broke through the 3,000 point barrier for the first time to come a clear first in the keenly-contested competition.

Law AAC coach Julie Boyle said: "Pamela's gold medal performance was one of several great efforts from Law AAC athletes at the meet.

"This is a reward for all the hard work she has been putting in at training over the winter and spring.

It's her first national title and is a great boost to the whole group.

She and the other athletes in her training group are putting in some really creditable PB's and the next set of races in August should be interesting."
