Law & District attended the West District Cross Country Championships in Irvine last month, which saw more than 500 athletes compete for District honours.
The best individual result for the club was from our only senior woman, Hilary McGrath. Hilary finished an impressive 2nd in the veteran age group. Results - Under13 Girls: Reagan Binnie 18th, Emily McNicol 26th, Lucy Cairns 39th, Evie Robb 61st, Kirstin Cherrie 62nd; Under13 Boys: Gregor Gillespie 6th, Ben Fountain 29th, Adam Kelly 42nd; Under 15 Girls: Pamela McNicol 22nd; Under15 Boys: Robert McGrath 35th; Under17 Girls: Alice McGrath 12th; Under17 Men: Andrew Lawler 10th; Under20 Men: Christopher Watson 7th; Senior Men:  John McGrath 180th, Pat Kelly 187th, James Rowley 207th.
On the strength of some very good performances in Irvine, 7 of Law’s athletes were selected for the West of Scotland team at the Inter District and Celtic Nations Cross Country Championships held on Saturday 7th January, at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh; Reagan Binnie, Gregor Gillespie, Alice McGrath, Andrew Lawler, Sherelle Graham and Hilary McGrath. For most this was their first time in a district vest and despite bitter conditions Law athletes competed strongly. In the Under13 races Reagan Binnie finished 23rd and Gregor Gillespie 30th. Both Reagan and Gregor helped their team win the Inter District Title. Alice McGrath and Andrew Lawler, Under 17, finished 69th and 51st. Senior Woman, Hilary McGrath, finished 34th. The next outing for the XC team will be the National Cross Country Championships at Calendar Park in February. Cross Country Captain, Pat Kelly, is looking forward to some excellent performances from this promising group of athletes. Club training nights are held in Carluke, Wishaw and Biggar.
